The Oscars 2023: Nominees and winners

Over the past few months, we have been gathering a list of movies for you to watch, carefully handpicking titles that will suit the public. Now, it is time for the crème de la crème of cinematography – Oscar nominees and winners.

On Sunday, 12th of March, all movie lovers kept their eyes peeled on the 95th Academy Awards (The Oscars’). First held in 1929. It is the year's biggest celebration in the movie world, and everyone in the industry awaits this exciting time each year with bated breath. Even though the event will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, the event is for every actor and actress across the globe aspiring to be a part of it.

The history behind the Oscars

The name “Oscar” has quite a random origin. Up until 2013, The Oscars was called Academy Awards. In 1931, an Academy Awards librarian named Margaret Herrick once remarked that the award statue reminded her of her Uncle Oscar. Since then, employees would call the statue Oscar unofficially among themselves... However, the first documented use of the term was made by a columnist for the New York Daily News, Sidney Skolsky, in his article!

In 2013, the Academy Awards was officially rebranded to “The Oscars’, announced by show co-producer Neil Meron. This fun fact reminds us of the story of how “Apple” got its logo – Steve Jobs followed a fruitarian diet, and an apple was his favourite fruit.

Immerse yourself in a world of entertainment

We've got one last inside scoop for you. Masterpieces like these should be viewed with ease and contentedness. In this case, the main factor for both is the ability to stream your favourite (or just most anticipated) flicks in HD or UHD with minimal buffering.

"How do you reduce buffering?" you ask. To minimise buffering on a consistent basis, your best bet will be to opt for a strong, reliable broadband connection.

"What does a strong and reliable internet connection actually look like" we hear you say. Well, many things can affect your broadband speed, but opting for a wired connection over a WiFi one is the first place to start; using an Internet Service Provider that offers symmetrical download and upload speeds, doesn't throttle your connection, has great network uptime and, most importantly, has the speeds to take you to the cinematic streaming gods in the sky and back - now that's perfection.

So, prepare to step into your own Academy Awards in the comfort of your living room with our Community Fibre TV package, offering 215+ live channels, 40+ apps and a lot more goodness for just £10/month. All the 'also known for titles' above are available to stream with Amazon Prime Video (included in our apps), as well as Rakuten TV, YouTube, Hayu and many more.

Grab London's fastest 100% full fibre broadband at a price that won't break the bank

Hop on over to Community Fibre for London’s fastest broadband speeds, a core network with 99.9% uptime reliability and the same buffer-smashing download and upload speeds to stream UHD content, video call and Twitch till the cows come home. We build, own and maintain our dedicated full fibre network, using the latest fibre optic technology - so you won't find any old copper cabling around here. That means no speed sharing with other 'fibre' internet providers who promise the earth and underdeliver – we never slow down your speed, even during peak times.

If you're looking to perfect your WiFi game, then match our really great broadband with really great WiFi. Our unbeatable Premium WiFi  service uses Mesh Technology, which allows you to get the best possible connection in the rooms that matter most throughout your home. Want to stream and steam from the bathtub? We can help you do it. Like to link up and go live from the back room to review the latest flicks? We've got you covered.

As a 16-time award-winning service, we bring you London’s fastest speeds and the strongest connection as part of our 1Gpbs and 3Gpbs service packages.

Welcome to the future.
