Cast: Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Michael Shannon 

Coming into an industry that is predominately ruled by men (which one isn’t?) the two young women throw a dare to society to see women in Rock n’ Roll in 1975. The year of love, freedom and rebellion may not be so welcoming to a girl band just yet. This is the story of a drummer Sandy West and guitarist, Joan Jett.

Cast: Annette Bening, Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig 

Raising a child is already hard but try raising a developing mind in California in 1979 with two other women. The mother can’t seem to escape her past life lived out during the Depression, the life she often finds herself mourning, while the young in this film provide an awakening to the old mind theories and world views. We get to witness the character’s kindling emotions towards modern times, revolving around a timeless notion of differences between generations. 

  1. Bombshell (2020)

Cast: Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie 

Based on a real-life scandal of three smart and ambitious women who exposed and brought down the CEO of Fox News for harassment, risking their careers.

The iconic Charlie’s Angels make a return! This time tasked to investigate a dangerous technology putting their lives on the line. Who wouldn’t mind getting defended by Kristen Steward?

From the ground-breaking writer-director of “Killing Eve” we get another masterpiece on our screens. The story of Cassandra, played by the marvellous Carey Mulligan, taking the revenge for her friend into her own hands following an abrupt end to her career as a doctor. Cassandra is driven by her rage, using herself as bait and then later dealing with her prey. 

  1. Amsterdam (2022)

Cast: Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Rami Malek, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert De Niro 

Inspired by a forgotten piece of American history of 1933, the storyline introduces us to a doctor, a nurse and a lawyer who have formed a pact while living together in Amsterdam after World War One to always support one another no matter what. They since reunite once again to uncover the mysterious murder of a retired US general. The plot circulates the class division, reminding us to never forget about past events as they tend to repeat themselves. 

  1. The Menu (2022) 

Themes: Thriller, Comedy, Food

Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult 

In this dark comedy, a young couple travel to a secluded location to be wined and dined in a lavish lifestyle among affluent and important people. They soon realise they might be the main course of events. Filled with witty dark humour and an interesting concept, this movie will satisfy the taste buds of film connoisseurs.
