September 29th 2022, London, Islington: Islington Council has partnered with Community Fibre to roll out London’s largest and fastest 100% full fibre broadband across the borough. The new network build is as part of a custom-built installation that will provide thousands of residents, businesses, and communities with London’s largest and fastest broadband at the best value on the market.

Unlike most providers, Community Fibre builds, operates and owns its dedicated 100% full fibre network with the most advanced technology available. Therefore, it does not rely on BT Openreach’s or any other provider’s cables to deliver fast and reliable 100% full fibre broadband directly into individual properties.

Planning surveys have already begun in the area of St. Mary’s, where residents are set to reap the benefits of full fibre broadband at the most affordable cost. Over the next three years, Community Fibre will roll out its fibre broadband in partnership with Islington Council to deliver its network to 36,000 properties across the borough.

The build follows Community Fibre’s announcement that it is on track to double its network target in London and will pass 2.2 million homes and businesses by the end of 2024. As the broadband provider accelerates across the capital, the ISP will aim to serve more than half of the 3.7 million homes in the city.

Cllr Una O’Halloran, Executive Member for Homes and Communities, said: “Fast, reliable internet is essential in our increasingly digital world and better broadband for council homes is an important part of our work to make Islington a more equal borough

“We are bringing the benefit of superfast broadband to people living on our estates and in our council homes. We are also pleased that these broadband partnerships will create apprenticeships and job opportunities in the borough.”

Graeme Oxby, CEO of Community Fibre, added: “At Community Fibre, we believe that everyone should have access to the best internet to ensure growth and greater opportunities for all. Closing the digital divide is our priority. Therefore, we are focused on accelerating our full fibre rollout to facilitate better internet for everyone supported by our Community Investments and Digital Ambassadors programme.

"We are pleased to be working with Islington Council to bring London’s fastest internet to its residents at the best prices, which has held a 4.9 ‘Excellent’ Trust Pilot score and 96% 5-star reviews (September) for the past three years.”

Community Fibre’s mission is to deliver 100% full fibre broadband to all of the London communities it serves, helping to provide residents with opportunities for education, training, employment, social inclusion, and community projects. It works closely with landlords, councils, and housing associations to deliver connectivity to those who need it most, offering the best value and highest broadband speeds in London.

Once works are complete, thousands of Islington residents can choose to sign up for faster internet speeds offered at varied price packages depending on the provider. This includes wired speeds up to 3,000 Mbps (400 - 650 Mbps over WiFi when using a WiFi 6 router), which is up to 59x faster than the UK average download speed & 306x faster than the UK average upload speed. It also provides 100% full fibre connectivity for businesses with broadband package speeds up to 10 Gbps. Islington businesses will also be able to enjoy 100% full fibre connectivity with business broadband package speeds up to 10,000 Mbps. More information about its business packages can be found here.
