Backed by the Mayor of London's Connected London Team, Community Fibre is on a mission to provide fast and affordable broadband to all - with more than one million Londoners now able to get access

London, UK: The Chief Digital Officer for London has welcomed the major milestone from Community Fibre, as it announces that more than one million Londoners can now access cheaper, faster fibre broadband.

The announcement comes as research found almost three-quarters (71%)* of people surveyed now view broadband as an essential utility, and no longer simply a nice-to-have, with 1 in 10 regularly struggling to access vital services like GP appointments, online banking, and government websites as a result of poor internet connection.

Community Fibre, which is the capital’s largest fibre broadband provider and backed by the Greater London Authority, is on a mission to make high-quality broadband easily accessible to Londoners. It offers broadband packages ranging from 150 Mbps to 3 Gbps, (43x faster than the UK average download speed and 163x faster than the UK average upload speed)[1], for a fraction of the price. On average, Londoners could save up to £737 on their broadband bills simply by switching[2].

Community Fibre is also hailed by consumers as the ‘Best Internet Network Provider’ on Trustpilot, commanding an ‘Excellent’ 4.8/5 rated service with more than 31,000 5-star reviews (September 2023).

Recognising Community Fibre’s commitment to delivering more affordable broadband to Londoners Theo Blackwell, Chief Digital Officer for London, said: “It is fantastic that over one million homes in London can now connect to full-fibre broadband, giving people and businesses faster, more reliable and more affordable internet access across the capital. The Mayor's Connected London team and Community Fibre have worked together to bridge the digital divide and improve our city’s broadband infrastructure for the future, helping to build a better, fairer and more prosperous London for all.”

Graeme Oxby, Chief Executive Officer of Community Fibre, commented: “With ongoing pressure on household bills, as well as increasing consumer demand for online access and digital connectivity, we are proud to enable access to faster, cheaper, and more reliable fibre broadband to over one million London properties across the capital.”

He continued: “As well as advancing our network build to more properties and businesses across the capital, we will continue to challenge the industry with our innovative offerings, such as setting new out-of-contract pricing standards, which we have capped at £2 across all our packages, as well as providing easy access to our social tariff, which remains the only social tariff product on the market today which does not ask consumers to provide proof of eligibility.”

In celebration of its announcement that more than one million residential properties can connect to its fibre broadband network, which is the largest across the capital, Community Fibre is giving Londoners the opportunity to win a free 12-month period 1 Gbps fibre connection.

To enter the free prize draw, Londoners should first check their postcode to check eligibility, and then head to https://communityfibre.co.uk/1mhomes. Terms and conditions apply.**
